Bigger, better with more to come!
BiFocus.com has moved into a new home. It's bigger and better, making it possible to bring new exciting features (For the techies: All the fun toys of .NET Framework 3.5).
On the content side, the resources and the book list have grown 10-fold. There are now 32 books listed and a little more than a dozen popular or significant bisexual sites are listed either on the popular or on the traditional listing. That's in addition to the 27 bisexual groups and clubs with web sites being tracked by BiCafe.com.
Bisexual search
Only a dozen bisexual sites! How come?
Because people and interests come and go on the Internet with more abandoned and nearly dead web sites than live ones! There are dozens, possibly over a hundred bisexual web sites still listed on Google and showing a page or more, but most have been out of date for a year or more.
A dozen bisexual sites today is in fact more live ones that we have seen in the past and that's great news.
Popular and traditional lists. Why?
They serve different audiences and purposes. The popular list has the sites that are popular with the wider bisexual audience, the bisexuals who mainly seek social opportunities to meet other bisexuals.
While the traditional list has the sites popular with bisexual activists. Great resources to learn about the history and tradition of the bisexual movement, not so much to share a beer with your "everyday" bisexual.
Bisexual books
How many bisexual books are there?
It depends what you are looking for! While there are hundreds of books listed on Amazon under the keyword "bisexual", many are quite remote or incidental to bisexuality while others have been out of print for a very long time.
What we did find is that past the popular ones, most of the books listed were written with a specific audience in mind: There are books for and about bisexual women, or bisexual men. There are well researched books about history. Serious and not so serious books in the broad scope of erotica.
We left out books where bisexuality is either incidental or not central to their subject. That's mainly the hundreds of books covering the wide range of homosexuality and LGBT.
Where are all the bisexual conferences & conventions of the past?
They were very popular back in the nineties at a time when activism helped bring bisexuality to par with gay and lesbian visibility.
It is the success of this early generation of bisexual activists that has lessen the interest of the current bisexual generation for large national or regional occasional gatherings. Today's bisexuals seek local and immediate social networking opportunities. Local groups who offer frequent get-together in public venues like bars, restaurants and clubs have the largest active following.
The bisexuals in the UK continue to attract interest with national and regional meets, known as BiCon and BiFest, offering a broad range of activities and social opportunities.
